Saruman and the Dajjal (Deceiver and False Messiah)

Tolkien uses different characters to symbolize aspects of the Dajjal, the long-lived Deceiver whom every Prophet warned his people against, and who will oppose the Mahdi and Jesus at the end of time. Saruman represents several aspects of the Dajjal.

is Gandalf’s elder brother in the Istari Wizard order. The false Messiah and deceiver in Arabic Masih al-Dajjal. Masih in classical Arabic is the source of the word Messiah in Hebrew and English. Dajjal means a deceiver, using a type of deception called dajl – دَجْل .

Dajl is a type of psychological deception trickery and persuasion that is different from outright lying. Saruman is particularly known for the power of The Voice. In the book The Two Towers names the 10th chapter The Voice of Saruman.

shows an important aspect of Saruman. Gandalf warns the entire fellowship about the powers of The Voice, When they confront Saruman at Isengard Tolkien writes that Saruman’s voice was “low and melodious, its very sound an enchantment.

In ‘s story, the people of Rohan flee to Helm’s Deep in the mountains to escape Saruman’s forces. The Prophet said there would come a time in which people would flee the , up to the mountains.
