Tolkien took the Mahdi’s unquenchable thirst for knowledge and super deductive reasoning and let it shine in Frodo the night he solved the riddle at the walls of Moria. Even Gandalf who is hundreds of years older could not figure it out!?
Since The Mahdi/Frodo is not a prophet or messenger he needs this thirst and desire for knowledge to attain the level of guidance which exceeds that of even some prophets.
